Courses with a community-engaged learning component can be found across all academic disciplines at 91Âé¶¹¾«Æ·. Some courses may fulfill requirements of the Core Curriculum, while others may count toward major or minor requirements.

Below are courses being offered in the Fall 2026 semester with a community-engaged learning component.

Arts and Sciences

  • CHEM 2125: Science Changing Society - Emily Kerr
    Students will collaborate with community members to research current scientific topics and practice communicating scientific information.
  • CHEM 315L: Analytical Chemistry I Lab - Irene Kimaru
    Students will collect water quality data to inform local conservation efforts.
  • CORE 4990-02: Keys to Aging Well - Marta Rodríguez-Galán
    Students will consult with elders to learn about their experiences. They will research a specific topic related to aging and design an intervention.
  • CORE 4990-12: Building Community History - Anthony Siracusa
    Students will create an exhibit to display the history of a local church.
  • CRIM 330: Human Trafficking - Keith Beer
    Students will contribute to human trafficking awareness and education initiatives.
  • ENGL 268: Fundamentals of Film- Michelle Flood
    Students will create a documentary for partnering organizations and short clips for promotional purposes.
  • ENGL 1054 & POSC 1021: Reading the Court & Issues in Law and Politics - Fionnuala Regan & Jane Snyder 
    Students will engage in service projects after conducting interviews and learning about community needs through this First-Year Learning Community.
  • HIST 2101: Perspectives on War - Frederick Dotolo
    Students will engage with veterans to facilitate dialogues and participate in related service initiatives.
  • LSPN 318: NYC in Hispanic Literature & Film - Marina Bonilla-Conejo
    Students will make regular visits to a bilingual elementary classroom and design original bilingual books for the partnering children.
  • POSC 212: Legal Research and Analysis - Jane Snyder
    Students will support community partners by completing a legal research project.
  • PSYC 2401: Ethics and Addictions - Timothy Powers
    Students will engage in service initiatives related to substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery.
  • SUST 1076 & ENGL 1070-07: Rochester EcoSYSTEMS - Michael Boller & Fionnuala Regan
    Students will design field studies to connect youth with nature through this First-Year Learning Community.

Business

  • FINA 470: Strategic Financial Management – Fan Li
    Students will analyze capital budgeting, valuation, and financing strategies for partnering clients.
  • MKTG 325: Promotion Management – Ron Sicker
    Students will develop a promotion plan for clients considering target markets and implementation strategies.
  • MKTG 327: Buyer Behavior – Amy Valente
    Students will provide recommendations to local retailers after conducting research and on-site analysis of the businesses.
  • MKTG 403: Social Media Marketing – Alexandra Salas
    Students will generate a strategic marketing roadmap tailored to the partnering organization’s needs.

Education

  • EDUC 333: Differentiated Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in Middle School - Maylin Harter
    Students will contribute to individual, small group, and whole class instruction at partnering school sites.
  • EDUC 424: Praxis Ethical and Responsible Teaching - Kristen Driskill
    Students will apply their understanding of social justice and social action within classrooms, schools, and other learning communities.
  • EDUC 471 - Management in Inclusive Classroom Communities
    Students will research and present on parent-identified life skills and growth opportunities for children with exceptional needs.

Nursing

  • NURS 301: Population Health and Wellness I – Elizabeth Dollinger & Joy Hogan
    Students will support local community health organizations that are experiencing high volunteer needs.
  • NURS 312: Palliative and End of Life Care – Jackie Coates, Joy Hogan & Alida Merrill
    Students will provide caregiving support as hospice aides for comfort care homes.
  • NURS 433: Population Health and Wellness II – Elizabeth Dollinger
    Students will apply social determinants of community health principles to health promotion, education, and research.
