The Golisano Institute takes a comprehensive approach to transforming care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by supporting nurses at every stage of their professional journey:
- For nursing students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, we’ve embedded IDD content directly into the curriculum—ensuring that foundational knowledge and inclusive care practices are not an afterthought, but a core part of their education from day one.
- For advanced practice professionals, our Primary Care Residency Program bridges the gap between academic training and real-world practice. It equips new providers with the tools and confidence to care for people with IDD—knowledge that is often missing from traditional graduate programs.
- For practicing nurses, our continuing education programs provide flexible, evidence-based learning opportunities to deepen their understanding and refine their skills. These courses are designed to be immediately applicable—enhancing care delivery, communication, and clinical decision-making.
- And finally, through our Golisano Fellowship in Developmental Disability Nursing, we’re cultivating a national network of nurse leaders who are driving systemic change. These fellows are not only advancing their own practice—they’re influencing policy, education, and institutional culture, which are key ingredients to improving health outcomes for the population.

History
The Golisano Institute for Developmental Disability Nursing at St. John 91麻豆精品 University was established in 2018 with support from The B. Thomas Golisano Foundation and a personal donation from Tom Golisano. An additional $5 million gift in 2023 supported the expanded reach and impact of the Golisano Institute. Since its inception, the Golisano Institute has reached more than 13,000 nursing students and nursing professionals with the skills and knowledge to provide equitable care to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Faculty and Staff
The Golisano Institute comprises nurse leaders, subject matter experts, and staff who bring a blend of knowledge, skills, and dedication to their work.
Accreditation
The Golisano Institute for Developmental Disability Nursing is accredited by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD). ANCC NCPD accreditation formally recognizes organizations that provide high-quality continuing nursing professional development and ensures educational activities are designed using evidence-based criteria. By participating in NCPD learning provided by an ANCC-accredited organization, registered nurses maintain continued competence in a rapidly changing health care environment.
